BASALTE

VERONIQUE HERMANN SAMBIN

2015

Label / Distribution : Jazz Family / Socadisc

Basalte, recorded with the ideal quintet, directed and arranged by both the pianist Frédéric Nardin and Xavier Richardeau, is an album where “the rhythms and the tempos change, the moods too. Each song has its temperament,” explains the singer, Véronique Hermann Sambin. She is behind almost all of the songs, writing for music by Lee Morgan (BEL PWOMES - THE SIDEWINDER), and composing music for a poem (“Love after Love”) by Derek Walcott, a poet and playwright from Saint Lucia and winner of the 1992 Nobel Prize for Literature. Although French and English are present on Basalte, Creole, with its gaudy curves and feline ease, takes up room: it illuminates this jewel carved and polished with passion and conviction, for which time will save its most beautiful patina.

Line-up: Véronique Hermann Sambin (vocals, compositions), Xavier Richardeau (baritone saxophone, clarinet, arrangements), Fred Nardin (piano, keyboard, arrangements), Samuel Hubert (double bass), Romain Sarron (drums), Inor Sotolongo (percussion)
